ASTRACOR (Spanish acronym – Asociación de Trabajadores de Construcción Residencial) was founded in 2006 as a non-profit 501(C)3 corporation through an initiative from the Virginia DOLI Workforce Investment Board (WIB) to enhance the skills and employability of current and future individuals in the residential construction trades through specialized bilingual training offerings.  Part of its mission is also to provide updated technical knowledge to the local homeowner community through seminars and access to referral services.

Subsequently, ASTRACOR has served well over 1,800 individuals since opening its doors and successfully trained over 500 people.  ASTRACOR is one of only a handful of Virginia training organizations authorized to conduct bi-lingual (Spanish/English) training by Virginia’s Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) and is one of two authorized training and proctoring test center facilities for the Building Performance Institute (BPI) in the Northern Virginia area.

ASTRACOR has grown with the explosion of green technology over the past few years by embracing related initiatives and engaging in edifying both industry professionals and homeowners through energy auditor training, workshop skill training, and contractor business training.

Dave Daly, ASTRACOR’s director, has collaborated on construction curriculum design for over 30 years as a vocational educator for Alexandria City, Arlington County, and NOVA CC in the DC area. He has additional experience as a Skills USA advisor, a Virginia DPOR certified instructor, and an independent training consultant for various national agencies. All training conducted by ASTRACOR is officially recognized by the Virginia Department of Occupational Regulation (DPOR), the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), and the Building Performance Institute (BPI).

ASTRACOR is honored to be considered a regional leader in the ‘Green Jobs’ and ‘Sustainable Building’ movement through its unique partnerships and offerings. We continue to be a recognized vendor for the Virginia Workforce Investment Board and local public schools in Northern Virginia.

ASTRACOR is privileged to have developed unique and first of its kind partnerships with other organizations that assist in guaranteeing the success of its trainees by providing allied support mechanisms and entrepreneurship services.  These partners include: the Business Development Assistance Group (BDAG); the Hispanic Committee of Virginia; the Legal Aid Justice Center; the Shirlington Employment and Education Center (SEEC); the Francis L. Greenfeld Laborers’ Training and Apprenticeship Institute; and the Laborers International Union of North America Local 11 (LIUNA) – just to mention a few.
